Winter may not seem like the best time
of year to consider moving, but if you do proper planning it can save you
lots of money. If you can move in the winter you can avoid peak season
pricing and take advantage of lower rates.
Here are some winter moving tips:
• Proper clothing –
dress warmly on moving day. Try as you might, doors will be open and you will be making
trips in and out.
• Be sure you clear a
path for the movers, it is required for their safety and it helps keep some of the snow and ice
out of the house.
• Keep utilities on –
it is tempting to have the utilities turned off in advance of the move, but you will need the
heat, especially if you end up spending and extra night in the house. Be sure
the utilities are turned on at your new home in advance of move in day so will
be able to go into a nice warm home.
• Have plenty of hot
liquids on hand on moving day, hot coffee, tea, soups not only keep you warm they help to
hydrate you in the cold.
• Service your car,
be sure your car has enough antifreeze and windshield washer fluid.
• Be flexible – have
a back-up plan. If the weather holds you up or delays your move, schedule.
